Event Summary: In software development, we seem to be preoccupied with our processes, so much so that we lose sight of the purpose for building the software in the first place. Ultimately it doesn’t matter how fast we build software if we’re building the wrong thing.
In this short talk Jeff Patton describes the practices that help us discover the product to build. Using an effective discovery phase, we identify where the value comes from in our software, and build delivery plans to maximize that value. Using an effective delivery process, we get working software sooner, software that allows us to validate early if the product will indeed deliver its intended value. Ideal validation comes long before the software delivery date. The resulting process balances discovery and delivery in a process where the ultimate goal is product success.
