  1. This is What I Would Have Said

May 4, 2012 by Traci Dossett

#4 Best Place to Work in Indiana!!  How fantastic is that?!?

At the awards dinner every year, the top winner has to say a few words when they receive their award.  Well, we didn’t have to give a speech this year, but if we had, maybe this is what I would have said…

We are honored to be where we are today.  To be amongst the best companies in Indiana and receive an award that’s based not on sales, not on size, not on growth rate…but that’s based on what your employees think of you.  Well, it doesn’t get any better than that.

We’ve been blessed over the years to have a management team that is devoted to our company.  They have created many paths to success and followed their instincts to get us where we are today.  We’ve done it with character, with diligence and determination and with love for the company. Our team is undoubtedly one of the best around.

And we’ve been blessed with clients that keep coming back.  True partners that ‘get’ who we are and what we’re about.  We’ve become not a commodity to them, but instead trusted advisors and a partner that celebrates our successes along with us.

But mostly, we’ve been blessed with the most amazing group of technical peers.  These men and women are first-class experts in their field. Yes, they come in every day ready to work and ready to take on whatever challenges come their way.  But more than that they go above and beyond what their job requires.  They innovate, they collaborate, they push and question and challenge…all to make not only SEP the company better, but to make each other better and to make the industry better.  And as if that weren’t enough, they devote more of their time to volunteering and devoting themselves to make our community and world a better place.  I am constantly in awe of the things our people do and it just comes naturally to them.  I truly don’t think they understand how inspiring they are.

So, my fellow SEPeers – thank you for what you do. Thank you for the humble greatness with which you proceed every single day. Thank you for the awesome ideas you come up with. Thank you for making SEP THE Best Place to Work.

  2. Paying It Forward

November 10, 2011 by Traci Dossett

You’ve probably seen the movie and if not you should (has it really been 11 years since it came out?).  You’ve probably seen at least one the fantastic Liberty Mutual commercials.  This one. Or maybe this one.  If not, you should!

Those are definitely some feel good moments.  Things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy.  But are they things that really change the world?  Can one random act of kindness really make a difference?

Would 85 random acts of kindness make a difference?

    My idealistic self says YES!

In celebration of  a month of thankfulness (November) SEP just rolled out our new Community Involvement Program, part of which is our Pay-It-Forward program. That’s SEP giving our employees a chance to share some of the blessings that we have.  That’s us putting our money where our mouth is when we say part of our mission is to ‘make the world a better place.’

I can’t wait to hear what happens.  I’ve heard some awesome ideas already (buying a stranger a cup of coffee, buying a meal for a homeless man downtown, taking a dozen cupcakes to a new neighbor). I have grand visions of watching the news one night and hearing “Up next at 11…a sudden outbreak of random acts of kindness is being reported throughout Indiana.  What is behind this movement?  Channel 13 investigates.”  (A girl can dream, right?)

    What do you think…

Has a stranger’s kindness ever turned your day around?

Have you ever seen someone do something that inspired you (like in the commercials)?

Have you ever had a moment where you paid it forward?

Let’s say you had 10 bucks to share…what would you do?

By the way, if you find yourself behind a car dropping off some donuts and coffee to those hard working construction guys on 146th Street one day next week, don’t be irritated because you had to slow down.  Be inspired.  Go…share some cheer.

  3. Happy Trails to You…

    New Loaner Bikes

    Take me for a spin

I had an epiphany a few weeks back while reading the BetterWorks Blog .  They were listing some companies that had fantastic employee perks.  Many of them cool, many of them not necessarily feasible for us.  But Clif…they had one that was perfect.  Loaner Bikes!

Truly, it makes my heart happy to see people walking down the Monon to grab some lunch.  Sometimes though, Bub’s is just a little too far of a hike for a 1 hour lunch.  Insert Loaner Bikes!  Grab a bike, grab some grub, pedal on back.  Love it.

So, I’m happy to introduce to you our four newest additions.  We have two single-speed bikes (one blue, one pink), a 23″ 21-speed (for you taller folks) and a 21″ 7-speed.  Locks are provided.  There are 2 bikes with baskets for doing a take-out run.  We encourage you to wear a helmet, but bring your own.  Because, well, who wants to share a helmet?

And a many thanks to Laura Terry and Carmel Cyclery who made this whole thing a reality.

    Happy trails, friends.  Enjoy.
