Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
"JDRF is both personally and professionally relevant to me," begins President Raman Ohri. "[SEP] has a strong interest in medical device development. It's very easy to draw a line between developing great medical products and improving people's lives. Diabetes care has been a point of emphasis for us."
Ohri began his work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through the strong corporate ties SEP has fostered with the medical community through client relationships. JDRF stands as the largest charitable supporter of Type 1 diabetes research and prevention. JDRF's goal of making life easier for those affected by diabetes as they continue to work toward a cure also hits close to home for Ohri.
"Five years ago, my wife got very sick. She had no energy at all, lost weight at a dangerous pace and couldn't eat or drink enough to feel full," explains Ohri. "After weeks of misdiagnosis and confusion, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Since then, it's been a constant part of our life. She wears a continuous glucose meter and an insulin pump 24 hours a day. She tests her blood at least 8-10 times per day."
With nearly 9% of the U.S. population stricken with some form of diabetes, JDRF strives to work toward prevention and research goals, as well as advanced testing to help those with undiagnosed diabetes receive the treatment necessary to control the disease, find nutritional alternative and prevent further complications caused by sugar build-up in the body.
"It's difficult to get across just how profound an impact this disease has," states Ohri. SEP's partnership with JDRF not only impacts the daily life of Ohri, his wife and their family but helps those in similar situations receive the help and aid needed to make each day more comfortable in the face of a disease that continues to afflict millions in the United States as well as the rest of the world.
